Purpose
This drill gives players a chance to work on their hitting approach, while eliminating the distraction of hitting a live ball
Setup
- 4-6 players line up just behind the 10-foot line, facing the net.
- Additional players can form a second line behind the front group
How it works
- The coach or a skilled student should first demonstrate a proper approach as the coach explains the key elements
- Players start at the attack line.
- On the coach’s command, players go through their approach, jump, and pretend to hit a ball over the net.
- Players then return to the attack line and repeat.
Coaching Tips
- Demonstrate a proper approach before the drill begins, so players have a visual model.
- Players should focus on slow steps at the beginning and a quick explosion at the end.
- Emphasize proper hitting arm movements (bow and arrow form)
- To make this drill even more engaging and competitive, give each player a badminton birdie and have them throw the birdie during their swing. Whoever throws the birdie the farthest wins.
