Purpose

To practice receiving a ball from one direction and setting the ball in another direction, as would happen in a game situation.

Setup

  • Divide players into groups of 3. Give each group a ball. Have the groups spread out at least 8-10 feet apart.
  • Each group of players should stand in a triangle about 10 feet apart.
  • One player from each group should be designated as the first tosser, the setter, and the hitter.

How it works

  1. The tosser tosses the ball to the setter to simulate a pass.
  2. The setter then sets the ball to the hitter location. The hitter catches the ball and gives it back to the tosser.
  3. After 10 balls, have players rotate roles.

Coaching Tips

  • As players get more confident, ask them to set the ball at different heights or to push the set further.
