Purpose
To allow each player to spend time focusing on their ball handling skills while involving the whole team
Setup
- Position one player near the net in setting position with a ball
- Position the remaining players in three lines on the same side of the net
How it works
- The player near the net tosses the ball to the first player in one of the three lines
- That player passes the ball back and the player near the net sets, tips, or hits the ball back to another player
- After each player in the three lines contacts the ball, they move to the back of the line
- This continues until the player near the net has made 10 contacts on the ball above their shoulders (passes below the shoulders are acceptable…they just don’t count toward the 10)
- Then a new player replaces the player at the net and the drill repeats until all players have made 10 contacts
Notes
- Players can switch lines or stay in their position throughout the drill(outside, middle, right side)
- You can reduce the number of touches from 10 to 8 or 6 to speed up the drill, especially for newer players
