Purpose
This activity helps players learn to move to pass.
Setup
- Position 3 players on one side of the net with one player covering middle back and two near the 10ft line on both wings.
- Coach stands at net with a basket of balls.
How it works
- Coach slaps the ball and then tosses the ball to one wing. That player passes the ball back to the coach and moves toward the back.
- Coach then tosses a ball to the back corner on the same side. The middle back player passes the ball back to the coach and moves to the 10ft line.
- Coach then repeats this on the other side. The effect is that each player rotates between all three passing positions in a figure 8 movement.
Coaching Tips
- Emphasize the importance of moving to the ball before passing.
- Depending on the passing ability of players, coach can make tosses easier or harder.
- This drill can be run on both sides of the court and you can keep score on how many good passes were made by each trio.
