Purpose

This drill helps players gauge the force required to pass the ball to a target from various distances.

Setup

  • This drill is run using the lines on a traditional volleyball court.
  • Divide players into three lines, starting at the attack (10 ft) line. Three players (or coaches) are in front of those lines at the net.

How it works

  1. A ball is tossed to a player at the attack line. The passer must get into position and return the ball to the coach or player at the net. That player then moves to the back of the line.
  2. This is repeated for each player in each line.
  3. Once each player in a line completes the first pass (at the attack line), they move back another 10 feet. They will now be 20 feet from the net and repeat the drill. Then again at 30 feet.

Coaching Tips

  • You can also do this with setters as an extra drill to work on skills.
