Purpose
This drill, often used as a warmup, helps players develop passing, setting, and hitting skills.
Setup
- Organize players into groups of 2 (or 3 if you have an odd number of players).
- Give each group a ball.
How it works
- The first player tosses the ball in the air to their partner who passes back to the partner.
- The second player then tries to set the ball back to their partner.
- The first player then executes a hit (spike) returning the ball to their partner.
- The second player must move quickly to pass the ball off the spike.
- Complete this at half speed for several rounds before doing it at full speed.
Coaching Tips
- This helps develop proper passing, setting, and hitting skills.
- Once players master each style of pass (Bump, Set, Spike) and can easily complete a full round at half speed, have them increase the speed
- If you have odd numbers or want to mix things up, you can form groups of 3
