Purpose
To improve setting skills by getting lots of touches.
Setup
- Divide players into two groups.
- Line one group up along the net facing away from the net.
- The second group of players forms a single file line just behind the 10-foot line at the side of the court. Give each of these players a ball.
How it works
- The first player from the side line moves onto the court and tosses the ball to the first player at the net
- The player at the net sets the ball back to the first player
- The first player then moves down the line and repeats their toss to each player at the net
- The second player from the side line moves onto the court and follows the first player down the line
- After each player makes their way down the line, they rejoin the line along the sideline and repeats the process
- Once each player from the sideline has moved through the drill 2-3 times, have the two groups switch places and repeat the drill
Coaching Tips
- This gives each player several opportunities to practice the set
- Since some players are better tossers than others, this gives each setter a chance to receive a toss from several different players
