Purpose
To practice transitioning from defensive play to hitting
Setup
- One player standing in the setter position with several balls
- One blocker on opposite side of net
- Coach stands just outside the court on the left side near the 10ft line
- One player on right sideline with remaining players lined up behind them
How it works
- The player on the right sideline shuffles twice toward the center of the court
- The coach tosses the ball and the player sprints toward opposite sideline and dives to touch the ball
- The player then gets up and gets into hitting position
- The setter position tosses the ball as a set
- The original player approaches and attacks while the blocker attempts to block
- The blocker then shags the ball and goes to the end of the line while the hitter replaces the blocker
Notes
- This drill can be repeated in the opposite direction
- Players must move quickly. Encourage the setter to give them just enough time to recover but no more.
