Purpose
To encourage aggressive defensive play while allowing offense to practice hits
Setup
- Three hitting lines and a setter on one side
- One defender on opposite side, may start where ever they prefer on the court
- Coach tossing balls to setter
How it works
- The coach tosses balls one at a time to the setter who sets to any of their hitters
- The hitter hits the ball trying to keep it away from the defender
- The defender must touch ten balls before rotating out
Notes
- For less advanced players, you can use two defenders instead of one
- You can reduce the number of touches for less advanced players
- Encourage the defensive player to “read the hitter” and adjust their position accordingly
